Dark Passage

Bogart and Bacall spark off their wonderful acting chemistry in "Dark Passage";

Guy escapes prison (Bogart,) See? Girl (Bacall,) gives refuge to guy. Got that? Yeah. . . The exciting scénics of San Francisco become the backdrop for the ensuing manhunt. The escaped con is often recognized and suspected, heightening his wish to flee and hide detection, taking us with him through his Dark Passage into and out of film noir. He is able to do so but must brave a medical metamorphosis and battle the intervening finger of fate that slates him against the quirks of manipulators and those who would see him behind bars in a shake of this finger. Is he guilty? --no. San Francisco creates a symphony of noir elements with a twist. What. . .? A happy ending you say? Of course. It's Bogie and Bacall, likely the only couple to make it out of film noir alive, together and with a pretty colored tropical drink in hand, in B& W, of course.

Kings Go Forth (1958)

Frank Sinatra, Tony Curtis and Natalie Wood star in this searing war drama.
In WW II France, Corporal Britt Harris (Curtis) is assigned to work alongside war-weary Sgt. Loggins (Sinatra) - a man he soon rivals for the affections of the beautiful Monique Blair (Woods), an American who grew up in France.

Kings Go Forth is a 1958 black-and-white World War II film. The screenplay was written by Merle Miller from the novel of the same name by Joe David Brown, and the film was directed by Delmer Daves. The plot involves friends of different backgrounds manning an observation post in Southern France who fall in love with the same French girl. She proves to be of American mulatto ancestry. Themes of racism and miscegenation provide the conflict elements between the leading characters, something that was out of the ordinary for films of the time, while the setting during the so-called Champagne Campaign remains unique.

Of his role in Kings Go Forth, Tony Curtis said that it was the "most difficult" of his career, while Sinatra, despite his liberal credentials, said that he "took the part as a performer, not a lecturer on racial problems."

At the US box office, Kings Go Forth was a moderate hit that was received without great adulation from critics, but hardly lambasted.

During World War II, Captain Cassidy and his crew of submariners are ordered into Tokyo Bay on a secret mission. They are to gather information in advance of the planned bombing of Tokyo. Along the way, the crew learn about each other as they face the enemy and some of them lose their lives. After getting the information they need,they face the harrowing task of getting free once their presence is discovered.
This film represents one of four movies made by Hollywood during the 1940s which were about or related to the USA military's Dolittle Raid on Tokyo, Japan during World War II. The four movies (the first three considered "fictionalized") are Destination Tokyo (1943); The Purple Heart (1944); Bombardier (1943) and Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo (1944), the latter being the most accurate and least fictionalized of the four. This movie also stars John Forsythe Who played Charlie in Charlies Angels.
